Royal The Pomsky Puppy

So Natali and I had been debating whether or not we should add a little puppy to our family. I've wanted to get a dog since we moved into the house. But I wanted a manly dog, and Natali wanted a little purse dog. So, we started looking at Pomskies (half pomeranian/half husky) because I love huskies. So I started sending pictures of pomskies to Natali, and eventually we decided to start looking. We came across these pictures of this little guy...

And after just a few pictures and a little video that they sent, we just had to get him. So we took the plunge (with a little nudging from Randi I might add). The problem was that he was in Wisconsin. So, they suggested a puppy nanny fly out to Dallas and bring him to us. Here he is on his first big adventure.

We were very nervous picking him up, especially Natali. She thought maybe we were making a big mistake and maybe she wouldn't even like him and then what would we do... But here we are at the airport and the first moments with him...

After some discussion, we decided the best name for him was Royal. So I present to you, Royal the Pomsky. Warning, this post is a picture overload of fluff and cuteness. If you can't handle that, stop now. You have been warned.

So here are a few facts about Royal:

1. Royal is a 2nd Generation Pomsky, which means both of his parents were pomskies. This is pretty rare, but it helps keep the size down so Royal had a higher chance of being on the smaller size of pomskies. The first picture is his dad, and the 2nd picture is his mom on the right.

2. The day we brought Royal home he was one of the cutest things I have ever seen. He did not want to leave my side and would just follow me wherever I went. Whether I was walking around or doing dishes, Royal was right by my side.

3. The first night with Royal rolled around and he was one tuckered out little guy. He was so cuddly and just curled up in our arms and slept. Natali was so happy thinking that we got a really cuddly puppy, but it didn't last long.  It seems it was a one night occurrence.  In fact, he doesn't often like to cuddle (unless he is licking your face) and when he does it is short lived, but he does seem to be getting a little more cuddly as he grows up.  But we still love him even though he is not a cuddler ;-)

4. Sometimes we walk in on Royal and he has his bed on his head. For some reason, he likes to put things on top of his head.

5. He has a "super-speed" run where he will just randomly start running in circles as fast as he can.  It is amazing and he still does it.

6. After the first day of following me around, Royal decided I wasn't as cool as he initially thought. He found a new favorite person, Natali.  Boy does he love her.  She is pretty dang fond of him too. When Royal hears the door open when Natali comes home he just waits at the top of the stairs.  Every night it is a big reunion and Royal acts like he hasn't seen her in weeks.

7. Royal LOVES licking faces. If you lay on the ground, he immediately runs and licks your face.  He has REALLY cut down on my napping since we got him.

8. This is Royal's favorite spot upstairs. He will sit and watch the cars and dogs and people go by. You can see that for a long time we had to put a pillow up there so that he could sit and watch out the window.

9. His favorite toy is his chicken (ya ya it's actually a rooster but he used to get a little frisky with it sometimes--he has stopped doing that thankfully--so I dubbed it a chicken)... so now we have quite a few of them all over the house.

10. Royal is a pretty smart puppy.  Within the first week he was able to learn all sorts of tricks including sit, "up", shake, roll over, and high five.

11. Royal's Favorite days are Saturdays.  He loves going on walks, going to the dog park (he was a little nervous at first), and going out to see people.  He is a little superstar and gets stopped everywhere he goes (people literally ask to take selfies with him).  We went to an outdoor art festival and we couldn't walk 10 steps without being stopped.  We also came across this BIG dog and Royal was not sure what to think about it.

Natali's favorite part of Saturdays is at the end of the day after we go out and Royal gets tired.  On the car ride back, Royal gets really cuddly and falls asleep in her arms.

12. One thing Natali was really hoping that Royal would howl like a wolf. So we tried and tried to get him to howl but nothing worked. One day we were trying to teach him a new trick to "dance" and he started howling up a storm. After that, he would howl whenever we would say "Dance". Eventually we were able to change it so that he howls when you ask "What do you think of France?" He is the cutest little howler.

Here are some of Royal's firsts:

First trip to the Vet. He was such a good boy.  He weighed only about 6 pounds on his first visit--he has fattened up bit since then...though the additional weight definitely comes at least in part from quite a lot of added fluff ;-).

First bath. He looks like a little rat with his hair wet.

And because I couldn't decide which pictures to put, here are a bunch of other cute pictures of Royal in his puppy days.  He is just adorable.  He sure stole our hearts from the first day he came into our lives.  He is super sweet and just loves to meet new people.  He thinks everyone he meets is a new best friend :-).

We just love the little guy so much. He has the cutest little personality and is so sweet to everyone. He loves meeting new people so if you ever come visit, he will make you feel like part of the family.
